Frequently Asked Questions
What is spaced repetition and how does it help with studying?
Spaced repetition is a learning technique that schedules review sessions at increasing intervals. Instead of cramming all at once, you review cards right before you would forget them. This leverages the spacing effect in cognitive psychology, which shows that information is retained longer when study sessions are spread out over time rather than grouped together.
How does the SM-2 algorithm determine when to show a flashcard again?
The SM-2 algorithm calculates the next review date based on your recall quality rating. Cards rated Easy get longer intervals between reviews, while cards rated Again are shown again soon. Each card maintains an easiness factor that adjusts over time. New cards start at 1-day intervals, then progress to 6 days, then multiply by the easiness factor for subsequent reviews.
Can I import flashcards from other apps or export my decks?
Yes. This tool supports CSV import and export. To import, prepare a CSV file with two columns (front and back) and paste the content into the import dialog. To export, select a deck and click Export to download a CSV file. This makes it easy to move cards between apps, share decks with classmates, or create backups of your study materials.
How many flashcards should I study per day for best results?
Research suggests reviewing 20 to 50 cards per day as a sustainable practice. For new material, adding 10 to 20 new cards daily while reviewing due cards keeps workload manageable. The key is consistency. Short daily sessions of 10 to 15 minutes are more effective than occasional long cramming sessions because spaced repetition works best with regular practice.
Is my flashcard data private and stored securely?
All your flashcard data is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage. Nothing is sent to any server. Your cards, decks, study progress, and statistics remain entirely on your device. You can export decks as CSV files for backup. Clearing your browser data will remove stored flashcards, so regular exports are recommended if you want to preserve your work.
